Lebih menyenangkan di Bandung, Indonesia!
It’s Excursion Day! Early morning, while we were busy choosing our OOTD, I can’t stop myself but to smile from ear to ear. One of the reasons is that, finally, we will be going to watch the performance of Saung Angklung Udjo. Ever since I started loving the music of Asia, I dreamed of watching one actual performance and right from that moment, that dream alone became part of my reality. The wayang golek that I always see in books and videos, finally, I can be able to touch them.
1st place that we went is the Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU). It was established in the year 1996 by the late Udjo Ngalagena, known as Mang Udjo or Abah Udjo, and his wife, Uum Sumiati. SAU is a place for art performance, laboratory for art education, and a distinctive tourism spot of West Java. Angklung is an Indonesian musical instrument which is made of bamboo. The late Mang Udjo said that Angklung is the art and cultural pride of the Sundanese.
It was nice to hear also the melody and dynamic tone being produced by Arumba. Arumba is a traditional musical instrument made of bamboo in diatonic scale. Diatonic scale is the 7 notes, Do Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti. We are using also the diatonic scale in the Philippines and that two-word is not new to me since I learned that when we were having our major in my 1st year of college. The Arumba was invented in the 1970’s and ARUMBA is the acronym for Alunan (A), Rumpun (RUM), and Bambu (BA).
At the end of the program, the children and the adult SAU performers invited us to dance with them. It feels great that we were able to meet them personally. The young performers are cute. It is like a form of a social dance. It was fun and enjoyable.
I tried playing a set of angklung instruments. I played the “Pamulinawen” song which is a very popular folksong in the Philippines. One of our buddies was amazed when he saw me playing one. I already watched an angklung performance way back when I was in 9th grade and since I am also a music major student in our school, I tried playing an angklung so that’s the aftermath and it is easy because all the notes were placed on each angklung. It feels something different to watch an angklung performance with different nationality. It feels great after all.
2nd place was the Pasarbaru where we bought our batik dresses and polos. I really love the designs. I bought two batik, one for me and one for my friend in the Philippnes. Me and my other friends who are SEA Teachers have planned to wear our batiks on our final demo and in our last week here at Bandung. We also bought souvenirs and pants at Pasarbaru because all the items are not that costly.
And for the last part, we went to Alun Alun, Bandung also where I saw the different characters from movies like transformers, avengers. We saw also some Disney characters and even ghosts. We also had our less than one hour of picnic in Masjid Raya Bandung Provinsi Jawa Barat. We took a lot of pictures also because the view is breathtaking. We took a picture also in the Asia Afrika and I even saw our country’s name being carved in the wall.
After the excursion, I felt tired physically, but my mind is not. My mind keeps on reminiscing the places we went this day. I did enjoy and it is very enjoyable.

This place is just a 15-minute drive from Tangkuban Perahu (an active volcano in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia). It is a place where you can find relaxation through hot spring bath with sulfur water.
